Baby Basics: 0-3 Months

If you’re anything like me, when you found out you were pregnant, you began googling like crazy to check out the best baby products for your little one. You to tracked down all the latest “must-haves” and double checked all their ratings and safety standards. After you finally welcome your teeny tiny baby into the world, you will be able to develop some opinions of your own on what items are absolute life savers, but for now, let people like me on the internet do it for you!  I was able to narrow my list – it could have been much bigger – down to five items that we couldn’t live without in our household, and you shouldn’t have to either!

Rock N Play | The Fisher Price Rock N Play was an absolute must for Chunker. We had a bassinet for him when he was born and he refused to sleep in it. The first few nights that we were home we could not figure out what we were doing wrong at bed time and finally decided to try changing what he was sleeping in. We went to the store and bought this lovely item – we got the model that rocks itself, score! – and he finally was able to get some sleep. It has been a godsend for us.

Swaddle | Babies needing their sleep is no joke, and mommies and daddies need theirs, too! Chunker was a definite swaddle baby. We started off swaddling him like they do in the hospital, ya know, with a blanket. Well, that “old school” swaddle didn’t last long when he began flailing his incredibly strong arms and breaking free. We eventually got the SwaddleMe, well multiple of them, so that he couldn’t bust out. They wrap around and velcro your baby into a very secure little baby burrito. They’re absolutely perfect. In fact, Chunker is four and a half months old and last night was the first night that he has slept without it since he was a newborn! *silent tear*

Boppy | Like most women, I bought the boppy thinking I would use it for help while nursing. While in the hospital and trying to breastfeed, I did use it some, but once I came home, we realized it has a full range of uses. Chunker has never been a big fan of laying flat, so we used it a lot in his early days to prop him. We also learned that if we put it under our arm and under his butt in the chair while we feed him, we are both a lot more comfortable. Plus, if you can’t come up with any other uses, more than a few of us have used it as an oversized neck pillow! Seriously, it can do just about everything.

Baby Bathtub | First off, I didn’t know that there are people who don’t use these, but there are. I can’t imagine trying to give a teeny tiny baby a bath without our baby bathtub. Thanks to his bathtub, Chunker has loved baths since the very first one he ever got. They are his zen time, seriously. It’s his favorite thing.

Baby Manager App | I found this app when I was in the hospital trying to breastfeed Chunker. When the nurses come in, they want to know how many times your baby has fed, for how long each session lasted, which side it was on, and when it began. Between the struggles of trying to learn how to breastfeed, trying to sleep, and having visitors in and out, I could not remember any of that! Finally, I decided there had to be an app for that. I stumbled across this lovely app and it has a spot for everything! It has a timer for breastfeeding and lets you put in which breast the baby was on. It has a spot for other ways of feeding – formula, pumping, baby food. You can put in diapers, medicine, and track measurements. We still use it to keep up with bottles and diapers so that we know what to tell the pediatrician when we go to check ups. It’s super duper handy in our chaotic parenting world.
